Professors Lake Brampton:

Originally a sand and gravel pit, Professors Lake was produced by extracting sand and gravel below the water table. This 100 acre Brampton sand and gravel pit was first opened in 1918, later closed for a time and reopened again in 1954. The operation ceased in 1973. In its lifetime, this operation supplied an estimated 20 million tonnes of sand and gravel to the Toronto area.

Today the main feature of the Professor's Lake complex is a 65 acre spring fed lake. It is used extensively for sailing, windsurfing, fishing and non-motorized boats. Other recreational pursuits include the beach, waterslide, volleyball, tennis, playgrounds, a lakeside pathway for walking, bicycling or inline-skating, and ice-skating in the winter. The lake is surrounded by a proud residential community with the City of Brampton Professor's Lake Recreation Centre located on the south shore. The Recreation Centre, built in 1982, includes a boathouse, beach, picnic area, food concessions, and meeting rooms.

The Professors Lake community is represented by a volunteer group known as the Professor’s Lake Neighbourhood Recreational Advisory Committee (PLNRAC) which is recognized by the City of Brampton. We, the enthusiastic residents, are actively involved in maintaining and improving the quality of our neighbourhood. We are the organizing committee for the famous annual Professors Lake Beach Party and the popular annual Heat Wave Dance (every February - brrr!). Holding six to eight meetings per year, we help keep neighbourhood residents current on matters affecting the community and the City of Brampton.
